PHIL FINCH CANTERS AWAY WITH BUSH CUP. Will Be Rested Up for Spring Campaign Nine Victories His Record at the Meeting. New Orleans, La., February 17. Phil Finch, easily the best horse at Crescent Park, added another to his long list of victories by capturing the Bush Cup, one of the annual fixtures of New Orleans racing and the attraction at the old track this afternoon. Little Scout and Captain Bob were his only opponents and the race proved little better than a good exercise gallop for this consistent son of Goldfinch. Todays victory marked Phil Finchs ninth during the meeting and four of these have been in fixed events. Captain Jim Williams announced previous to the running of the Cup that this would be Phil Finchs last race at the meeting, his intention being to rest him .up for the spring campaign in the east. Rams Horn, however, will be seen frequently from now on. He is to be a starter in the Carnival Stakes to be run on Wednesday, February 28, provided the track conditions are favorable. The colt is now being pointed for that race. A majority of the races furnished close finishes and in two of them the winners margins were small. . The backers of Avoid failed to agree with the official placing, which gave the race to Prince Salm Salm, and there was a demonstration when the latters number went up. Ihil Finch was the only winning favorite. The defeat of the other six choices meant rich returns for some of the books. Jimmy Jackson was among the lucky 6nes and he cleaned up over 5,000 on the afternoons racing.
