Sweet Kltly, a speedy lilly, ran In close pursuit of Blue Bottle to the stretch, where she downed him at the end of a strenuous drive through the last furlong. Blue Bottle set a hot pace and held on resolutely under punishment. Hoot Mon got off well, but was knocked back and. closing a big gap, was gaining steadily at the finish. Hermitage set a fast pace for a mile, then was done for. Vino went well for a mile only. The time was a quarter of a second faster than the track record. Gilpin got off first, but was outrun early and taken back but, after making a wide turn into the stretch, came on Tast and gamely and won out in the last stride. Embarrassment ran a fast, game race and was hampered through the last sixteenth by Gilpin bearing over and forcing him in close to the rail. Lucian showed the most early speed and, holding on gamely in the final drive, ran to his best form. Chimney Sweep seemed dangerous at the head of the stretch, but failed to stay. The latter ran disappointingly and tired in the final drive. Revolt closed a gap. Pliita finished well. Ambitious tired. Mazapan showed the most early speed, but quit in the stretch.
