COMPLEX SITUATION AT BROOKLINE. Dion Kerr, the amateur rider whose home Is in Washington, D. C, and who has been racing a small cross-country stable on the Canadian circuit, has shipped his horses to Belmont Park and bis colors will be seen during the Slieepshead Bay meeting. Included in the string are Dunseverrlck, Follow On and Conover, the latter horse being handled by Mr. Kerr for C. M. Harris. Mr. Kerr was quite successful in Canada, winning with Con-over and Follow On, while the former won two races at Brookline also. The old horse seems to be as good as ever and ready for many more victories. At Brookline Monday Mr. Kerr had the stewards guessing for a while. He had both Conover and Follow On in the Middlesex, a selling steeplechase. It was a question if he would be allowed to start both, but as he had no Interest In Conover except as trainer, it was decided that the rule which says that an owner may not start two horses in a selling race, did not apply in his case. But to complicate matters, Mr. Kerr wanted to ride Conover, as he could not make the. weight for Follow On. There was a lot of caucusslng and no one seemed to know If he was entitled under the rules to ride against his own horse. While there is nothing in the rules that would prevent his riding, Mr. Kerr at last decided to give the mount to some one else. "It seems that some rule or resolution that would deny the right of an owner to ride against his own horse In a race might well merit the attention of the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association stewards," says the Morning Telegraph. "If nothing worse, it open an avenue for gossip that will do more harm than good."
