LA PUCELLE LOWERS WINDSOR MILE RECORD. Runs a Sparkling Race No Favorites Win Jockey Swain Is Timid After His Fall, Detroit, Mich., June 25. La Pucelle ran a dazzling race in Windsors feature this afternoon. She was in front all the way and covered the mile In l-.UUl, lowering the track record from 3:.J. The race was the third on the card and of the live original entries Wexford declined the issue. The three besides the winner which went to the post were Ieter Sterling, Harry Stephens and Daniel C. Tiie books made Ieter Sterling the favorite, laying o to r. against him. This was on suspicion that La Puerile could not go a mile at top speed. The mare which has run some good races in her days never ran n better one than she did this afternoon. Those behind her never got to within three lengths of her and at the end she was simply cantering, wlille the others were tiring even under the whip. When the time was hung out Uiere was something of a demonstration from the grandstand occupants The day was a cloudless one and the attendance was large. Favorites fared badly, not a real first choice landing first money. Jerry Sharp was a well backed second choice, while Kings Guinea held second place honors In his race. He ran a good race, being fourth in the stretch and closing the gap under the whip, finally won going away. Jockey Swain rode Densie Densmore In the first lace and even to the casual observer It was noticeable that the lad was still suffering from a nervous attack from his recent fall. He did not seem inclined to take a chance to get through w;lth his mount and there was an absence of that dasli and vim which has heretofore characterized his riding. After this performance the judges decided that it was best that he. remain out of the saddle until he has recovered from the shock resulting from the accident of last Saturday.
