JOCKEY REIFFS PROSPERITY. Ex-jockey Lester Reiff is said to have multiplied his earnings as a rider greatly since his retirement from the turf. He was always a mannerly boy and saved a large share of his ample earnings. When he retired a few years ago he married the daughter of Dr. II. E. Rowell, the widely-known California horseman, and went to Oakland to live. There he bought an attractive home and hung out a shingle proclaiming that L. Relff desired to deal In real estate and mortgages. He secured plenty of deals from the start, but the sharp Californians thought that the former jockey knew nothing but horses and that he would be easy plucking. In this, however, they were greatly mistaken. They, found him a wise young man out of the saddle as well as in it, and today his books show scarcely a transaction In which he did not figure a substantial gainer. He has bought and sold all quantities and qualities of real estate, from rows of .fla.tr buildings In Oakland to fruit farms in the surrounding country, and success has always attended him. Lester now has his own automobile, a big touring car, which takes him to his fruit farm near San Jose whenever he desires to look over that property. He has built up a considerable competency, and Is now regarded as one of the leading appraisers and experts at the valuation of. property la Oakland.
