THE RACING OF PETER STERLING. Peter Sterling is the hero of the Northern Circuit and distinctly a credit to his sire Lord Ester-ling. Peter has not been in the habit of winning at all times, but in nearly all of his races he has figured among the busy contenders at the finishes. His improvement has lK?en so steady and marked that he must be considered a downright good colt; fleet of foot, game, a stayer and a weight carrier of high degree. Any three-year-old colt that can take up 12S pounds and go a mile in l:40i, pulled to a eantcr at the end, must be viewed with respect anywhere and in any sort of company. That is what Peter Sterling did at Fort Erie yesterday in the Genessee Hotel Handicap. It was not his best recent performance, however. His race of a few days prior in which, with 107 pounds up, he ran a mile and a sixteenth in l:45j and defeated Wexford, 4, 107; Arthur Cummer, 4, 102; Reservation, i, 103; Ron Mot, 7, 107, aud Goldruate, 3, 91 was a performance of higli class in all respects. Last year Peter Sterling started in twenty races, was first in six, second in eight, third in three, and but three times unplaced, his earnings being ,443. This year he has started in thirteen races; won six, been second in two, third in four and was once unplaced, his money winnings being ,330. Thus the record of this more than useful colt now reads as follows: Year. Sts. 1st. 2d. 3d. Unp. Amt. 1905 "0 n 8 3 3 ,445 190G 13 . G 2 4 1 0,330 Total 33 12 10 7 4 ,775
