CONDENSED HISTORY OF THE NEPTUNE STAKES. The Neptune is one of the list of valuable -stakes devised by the Brighton Beach Racing Association in 1899. Its racing history consequently extends no farther back than its first running in 1900, when its honors fell to the game, but unfortunate Tommy Atkins. Barney Schreiber carried It off the next yeai with Sains crack son, Otis. Tradition took It in 1004, but with that exception the race has always fallen to a colt.
