GETTING READY FOR ENDURANCE TEST. New York, July 20. The long distance riding endurance contest, lu which Harry K. Vlngut has bet ,000 that he can ride 100 miles in twenty-four hours and another ,000 that Lawrence Smith can ride 110 miles in the same length of time. Is causing lots of talk. A good many bets on the outside have been made, and there will be quite a collection of campers-out in the infield when the test begins, within the next ten days, at Belmont Park. There seems to be little doubt that Mr. Smith can make the ride all right, as he is Master of Hounds of the Sin I tli town Hunting Club and, although not quite as willowy of form and as sinuous as lie once was, he is in pretty good training and can stand the gaff. But Mr. Vingut has not ridden to any extent for some time and, to say the least, is somewhat plump, especially In the nether parts, where the strain of riding will most affect him. However, lie has not been at Brighton since he made the wager, and he is said to be training vigorously. He Is mak-. lug explorations in the stables of his friends in quest of a most suitable horse.
