MANY MISHAPS IN STEEPLECHASE. Buffalo, N. Y., July 20. Excursions from Toronto and other nearby points swelled the attendance at 8 the Fort Erie track to day. It was the largest mid-week crowd that the Canadian track has seen within Its gates since the opening of the meeting. The racing was exceptionally good. The finishes were close and exciting. The feature of the dayB racing was a steeplechase over the short course. Seven started,, but only two finished without any mishaps. The first; to come to grief was Tony Hart, unseating his rider at the first jump. Fra Fllllpo lost bis rider at the fifth, Dallycastle threw Hueston at the sixth, Myra Morella fell heavily at the eleventh and Madoc unseated his rider at the twelfth jump. That left only two out of the seven starters on their legs and Manzano, being mucii the best, won the. event by seventy-five lengths pulled up, with Duchess Ollie second. Ballycastle, which had been remounted by Hueston, finished the course and got third money. A stable boy caught Madoc, mounted him and finished the course within the time limit and in a driving finish with Ballycastle nosed him out for the third position, but the third place was given to Ballycastle as Madoc did not take all of the obstacles. Jockey J. Hagan arrived here from New York today and will ride the Aste horses which are in charge of trainer J. W. Pangle. Steeplechase jockey J. Patton also got In from Brighton. Joe Yeager dropped in on his way from New York to see his mare Juchess Ollie perform ov.er the obstacles. In the fifth race he backed Miua Gibson heavily and with better racing luck would have cashed a good sized bet.
