DOZEN YEARS BETWEEN WINNERS. Clovererest, the winner of the first race at Brighton Beacli Tuesday, was saddled by the veteran trainer, Con Leighton, whose last winner ou the eastern tracks was sent to post In 1894. Leigh-ton In his time had handled some famous horses, including Banquet, Tea Tray, Torso, Ajax and Chaos, a Futurity winner. He was the trainer at different times for Congressman W. L. Scott and Jacob Ruppert. Clovererest was widely tipped and made good In cracking fast time. The colt had not raced since last, summer, when he went wrong. Leighton was sure of success and told his friends to bet on the good thing in spite of the fact that Oyama, the favorite, had worked six furlongs In" better than 1:13 for that race.
