DIFFERENCE OF ,600 IN THEIR CLAIMS. Saratoga, N. Y., August 22. The arbitration committee of the Metropolitan Turf Association has been called upon to decide a ring transaction involving ,500. J. W. Gates instructed his betting commissioner. Robert McGibben, to wager ,000 on Wes last Monday. McGibben claims that after having placed ,500 of It, he offered bookmaker -William Cowan ,000 at a certain price which was accepted, and when asked If he wanted any more replied, "yes, 00 more." Next day at settling time Cowans cashier claimed that Gates owed him ,000, alleging that the last wager made was for ,000 Instead of 00 as McGibben claims. Mr. Gates declared this afternoon that it was a 1 to 100 bet that his commissioner was in the right and intimated he would not pay it.
