NO JUMPING RACES AT DOUGLAS PARK. Cincinnati, O., August 28. During the Douglas Park meeting the steeplechase brigade will have a chance to rest up a bit, as no cross-country races will be offered at the new track this year. Nearly all of the "leppers" located here will be shipped to Churchill Downs, which has. one of the safest and best stcepechase courses in the west. The closing of the Chicago racetracks set jumping back in this section of the country many years. The sport was picking up rapidly there when the blow came. The American Turf Association has endeavored to foster it, but conditions are such that not enough money can be offered to attract really good jumpers, although much more might be done In this respect than is now being done. That the sport is popular with western race-goers is shown in the fact that the crowds are always noticeably larger on days when jumping races are set for decision than on other occasions, save possibly when there are stake races. On top of the scandals at the Fair Grounds, New Orleans, in concction with jumping races some live or six years ago, Mr. Bush discontinued the sport there. However, there is a possibility that it will be resumed the coming winter. There will be steeplechasing at City Park.
