Sir Russell beat the gate and practically forced the pace throughout and outstayed the favorite In a hard stretch drive. Sanfara got away slowly on the Inside, was rushed up in deep going and established a small lead in the first quarter, but tired finally after a game effort under a poor ride. Oaklawn ran In third position throughout, but finished tiring and just saved it. Bas dOr trailed far In the rear to the stretch, where he closed up fast in a good effort. Wrenne raced into the lead early and, being excessively urged for the first six furlongs, tired at the end nnder a ;id ride. Aucassin showed superior speed, but was handicapped by the going and failed to stay. Woolwich, from a Mylng start, essayed to force the pace In the deep inside going, was shuffled back, but was again sent to the front and tired badly after going a strenuous five furlongs. Charlatan, away very badly and inadequately handled, closed a big gap and was going fastest of all at the end of a good race, but wants I blinkers and a more vigorous ride. Elmont ran forwardly and gamely throughout and is promising. The other two were beaten off, but Phantom Light ran well to the stretch.
