PURSLANE LOWERS A WOODBINE RECORD. Runs Five and a Half Furlongs in 1:06 1-5 Chancellor Walworth Wins at Long Odds. Toronto, Ont., September 21. At Woodbine track toady Joseph E. Seagrams Purslane, which was a starter in this years Futurity, easily- captured the five and a half furlong sprint, second on the card, and incidentally lowered the track record for that distance. Ed. Gardners Charlie Eastman held the record of 1:005 and today Purslane, masterfully ridden by Koerner, ran the distance in 1:0GJ. Charlie Gilbert was the victors only serious opponent, but he never had a look-in with the Seagram colt. Wholesale scratches reduced the fields, but aside from the second and sixth races, the latter easily taken by Meddling Daisy, the finishes were close and interesting sport was witnessed. The third race, at a mile and ah eighth, aroused the most interest among the spectators. The other victors received but scant support. Jockeys Koerner and J. Kelly-each rode two winners. William Murray, who will do the starting at the coming Hamilton meeting, was a visitor at Woodbine today. A. K. Louden, secretary of the Hamilton Jockey Club, was also here. Mr. Louden stated that everything Is in readiness for the Hamilton meeting, which will open Tuesday next.
