I MOMENTUM SCORES HIS TENTH VICTORY. Momentum, the brown colt by Sorcerer Balance II.. -Which won the second race at Gravesend yesterday, has proved a mighty good investment for the Newcastle Stable. This colt was bred by Henry T. Oxuard and was foaled in his Blue Ridge Stud at ITpperville, Va.. May 9, 1904. He was sold by auction at Sheepshead Bay June 22, 1905, and was Knocked down to Thomas Welch, his present trainer, for 500. He lias won ten races, been second once, and third twice and unplaced once in his fourteen starts. His total winnings to date are 1906.sh,185. He made his first start at Jamaica May 7, finishing third and last to Blue Dale and Clements. Eight of liis winning races have been at five and a half fur-h.ngs and the other two at five furlongs. All of his successes have been accomplished over fast tracks save one, which was in sloppy going at Salem. Three times he lias run five and a half furlongs in 1:07s, twice with 102 pounds and once with 97 pounds. That, seems to be the top of Ids speed, yet he has always had a safe margin at the end of his winning races at that distance. His best five-eighths was in 1:01 over the Salem track. He had up 114 pounds that day, the heaviest impost he has yet carried to victory. Balance II., his dam, is a daughter of Stratford and Equipoise. She was a winner and Is a half sister to Equality, the dam of that good racehorse Algol. Balance II. is also the dam of Counteriwise end Equity.
