DOLINDA MEDIUM OF A COUP. HE BEATS ALMA DUFOUB. BY A HEAD FOR THE HANDICAP AT LOUISVILLE. Walker and His Party Back Him Heavily The Steeplechase a Farce Mountain Again Rides Three Winners. Louisville, Ky., October C After an all-night rain it seemed this morning that the Churchill Downs track would be heavy, consequently there were a number of early withdrawals from the races carded for this afternoon. Some of these hasty owners had -regrets to express later, however. The sandy track, with Its extraordinary facility f,or soaking tip wafer, dried out by the time the first race was on to an extent that it was dusty on top. With two excellent attractions in the Louisville Handicap, and a steeplechase handicap, the attendance was up to tho usual big holiday proportions, and tho racing, white It .began with two easy victories, had enough of interest and excitement toward the end to more than satisfy the spectators. Jockey Mountain, whose success hero has tn porno extent dimmed the popularity of Nic6l rode three winners, Charlie Eastman, Western and High Bear. Charlie Eastman elearly outclassed his opponents, and Mountains victory with him was an easy one. But he earned tho victories with Western and High Bear. Probably he could have landed either of the placed horses in both races in first position. The steeplechase was the most farcical affair of its kind that racegoers have soon this season. Eleven started. ., Of-thoivt utevholted" arid one; laVerlCk, fell, leaving four, Creolln, the well backed favorite, Dr. Keith, Madoc and Battle Creek to finish in the order named. The first mishap occurred at the second obstacle when Gus Lanka and Weberflelds, then in the lead, ran out. They ran into the course again, causing II. M. P., Eyander, and Ben Shaw to bolri New Amsterdam ran out at- the sixth jump. After the leaders had bolted at the second jump, Creolih rushed, into the lead, which he maintained throughout. The accidents of the race were due to poorly schooled horses and had riders. The Canadians scored heavily over tho victory oE Dolinda in tho handicap when he beat out Alma Dnfandur in a furious drive by a short margin. They obtained as good as 20 to 1 at some stages of tho betting against the horse. ,, 7 The judges ruled after the second race that tho entry of S. A. B. would in the future be barred here because of his fractious acting at the posh J. O. Keeno arrived today from Memphis, where he has been superintending the castration of all his colt yearlings. In his band of more than thirty yearlings, twenty were colts.
