OUADI HALF A, THE FRENCH CHAMPION." The champion French two-year-old- of the season is Edmond Blancs Ouadl Haifa, by Persimmon Yesterling. He is, of course, English-bred though foaled in France. Lord Clonmell owns Yesterling and sent her to the Jardy Stud-Farm, where Persimmon stands, and Mr. Blanc paid about? 5,000 for Ouadl- Haifa as a yearling. . When Ouadl Haifa made his debut in -the Tre- mier Critcrlum, he was defeated by M. Aliments colt, Pernod, and after his victory in the Prix tb6 Bard at Maisons-Laffitte, it -was argued that he had beaten nothing. Considerable interest therefore attached to his recent performance at Longchamps, for it is generally maintained, that the Grand Crlteriuni reveals the best two-year-old of the season. The distance of the race is a mile, and Ouadl JIalfa has proved that he lias stamina as. well as speed. M. Aumont ran Calomel a colt said to be as good as, if not better than, Pernod, and Baron E. de Rothschild was represented .by Pcroralson a filly by Tarporley, that had beaten Pernod in the Criterium de Maisons. Ouadl Haifa made all the running, and won easily by two lengths, Calomel being second, and Pero-ralson unplaced, finishing, In fact, seventh. The horse placed third was W. K. Vanderbllts Second Sight, a first-class filly. It may, therefore,, be taken for granted that Ouadl Haifa is the champion of his age, although, for confirmation it may -be as well to wait until lie has an opportunity of again meeting Pernod. He is very heavily engaged in France, and has also been entered for the Epsom Derby", and the Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket next year. It may be mentioned that the list of includes Holoeauste; -who-met with his fatal accident at Epsom, Vinicius, Ob, and Val Or, all of which were considered good enough to-be sent across the Channel. Last-years winner was Prestige.
