FLYNNS. NEW STARTING MACHINE. John Flynn, the inventor of the new starting machine that is to be given a trial at Belmont Park, is an employe of John W.. Rogers. The machine Is intended for use in the making of a walk-up start. The barrier proper is made of tape or webbing, hut is, attached to a light framework, which runs on a rail at each side of the track. The barrier moves iu front of the horses and has a play of about 100 feet- The idea is to line the horses up. in front of the barrier, which will move in front of them as they walk into a good position. The- barrier -can be raised by the starter at any time the horses are well aligned and ready for the word. It can also be stopped at any point if neccegsary,, and flies up and out of the way with the pressure of a button. The barrier was tried in the presence of a number of Sheepshead Bay trainers Wednesday morning and met with their approval. Superintendent Clark, who saw the working of the barrier, said that it looked to be feasible and practical
