WHY SHAW RODE. FOUNT AINBLUE. "Dont, tell me he. is. not a good horse. Hes a first-class colt and I knew it. Hell- beat these cracks yet," Davy Johnson is quoted as having said after Fountainblues- victory in the Triumph Stakes. Naturally the presence of Shaw In the Brady colors caused considerable comment. When asked as to the change Mr. Brady said: "We concluded to put Shaw up as Martin had been unable to make the colt run up to his privnto form. The substitution is not meant as a reflection on Martin at all. He has done good service for me and I think is .the best distance rider in the country. But In justice to the colt, to the public and myself I believed it good policy to try another rider in tho hope that the colt would rnn hotter than he did for Martin. "Martin wanted to ride and- had a talk with me alMut it-today, but I told him that he must stand down this time. Tho colt had worked very well for tills race and I was determined to find out if he is a racehorse. I am satisfied now that he Is a good horse. 1 "I dont know if Martin will want to ride for me again, hut my contract with him does not end until November 15, and he wiU be paid, up until that time. I have no fault to find with him and only wanted to try a different rider in the hope of an improvement in the colts form. - - The action was in no way an accusation of Martin."
