Holsehor, the three-year-old brown sou of Lamplighter Princess Lorraine, with which "Diamond .Tim" Brady became suflicient-Ir disgusted to cast off, won the Brighton Cup today at odds of 20 to 1 for William Shields. It was the most sensational race in the history of the .fixtnro. The celebrated campaigner Proper was an odds-on. favorite, but failed to stay. Flip Flap, the. second choice, and heavily supported to boat the Jennings horse, disliked the mud, but; was a proven slayer. A premature move after the favorite left Langdons filly lacking, in . reserve speed to withstand Ilolschers end challenge nnd the steady, plodding son of Lamplighter won one of the great fixtures of the year. "Diamond Jim" Brady was keenly affected .by the result. Just one year ago Brady paid ,500 for Holsehor as a two-year -old. After many failures he disposed of him to W. Shields for ,000. During the week Brady had been anxious to acquire Flip Flap, the runner-up, and nctually offered 2,000 for the -Handspring filly. Notwithstanding these serious drawbacks, .fifteen thousand spectators atiendcjUtiic closing day of racing at the popular Brighton Beach track. The? jumping race was intensely interesting on account of the betting angle. Jimmy Lane appeared to f.ir outclass his opponents, yet the price against him receded steadily from the opening odds. Despite the handicap, Mr. Cottons horse won impressively. A plunge on Belle of Iroquois at odds-on in the llrst race went wrong. A big coup on Belmere in the fifth was successful. Fred Burlew and Frank ONeill were the manipulators. These worthies are dally fixtures in the betting ring. George C. Bennetts great little mare Dishabille, performed grandly in the closing race at six furlongs, yet she only finished fourth. Nannie Hodge won, due to Walter Millers skillful jockeyship. Halifax Is a light of other days. It is thought that next seasons allotment of dates will give Brighton Beach an additional three days j of July racing instead of the October week of the past two or three seasons. - , The new fieldstand at Aqueduct is nearly completed.
