FRENZIED FRENCHMEN IN RIOT AT RACES. Starter Leaves Four Horses at the Post and the Mob Burns Betting Booths. Cablegrams from Paris tell of a riot at Long-champs Sunday afternoon. There were six races on the card and a big crowd had journeyed to the course to see them. The first two races were run without iucident. The third was the Free Handicap. Nine horses were carded to start and the betting was heavy. Four of the nine horses, the favorite included, were left at the post. The crowd immediately became enraged. They surrounded the betting booths, chased out the cashiers and seized the money. The police were powerless in efforts to restore order. The frenzy of the mob grew more intense. From the numerous automobiles ou the grounds oil was taken. This was sprinkled on the betting booths and other woodwork. Soon these structures were ablaze. The firemen were- unable to stop the conflagration because the hose had been cut. On the request of the authorities, troops were sent to the courbe in a hurry. The soldiers charged the crowd and cleared the inclosure. The last three races were not run. Sixty arrests were made. Many persons were Injured.
