EOT FAVORITES IN ECLIPSE. DR. LEGG0 GIVES EVIDENCE OF REGAINING FORM, BUT FAILS HIS BACKERS. Artful Dodger and Auditor Mediums of Attempted j. . . . . - , Coups that Went Wrong No Action ih the LHommedieit Investigation. Cincinnati, O., November I. Favorites failing to win a single race during the afternoon, caused form players to sustain severe loss. With the exception of Shining Star all the beaten favorites landed in second place. The latter ran a poor race, far below his best form, and will probably show to better advantage in the near future. C. C. McCafferty attempted a coup with his good perfomer Dr. Leggo in the condition purse race- at one mile and it was the general opinion that with good handling Dr. Leggo would have won off by himself. T. Taylor, who rode him, put up a listless effort and took the horse in several pockets besides going wide in the stretch. McCafferty was much displeased after the running and took no pains to conceal his chagrin by roundly berating the rider after he dismounted. The defeats of Artful Dodger, which had been brought here from Louisville with a view to a contemplated "killing," and Auditor, enabled the bookmakers to reap a harvest. "Bob" Tucker, owner of Auditor, although absent from the course, is said to have had a large force of commissioners circling through the ring and offering the books all kinds of amounts on his chances, forcing the price about him down from 3 1-2 to 1 to 0 to 5. Artful Dodger was backed with confidence to win the second race. lEliaiySSt0 ..LfiJEaiteISgiJthpreBni-inary caused his withdrawal and bets to be declared off. Some pesons secured as good as 10 to 1 against Artful Dodger. But in the new betting 3 to 2 was a good price. He- showed the most speed for the first half but tired badly when challenged by Crafty. The defeat of Hazelthorpe and Mcadowbreeze in the six furlongs handicap by Lady Henrietta was a big surprise. With more alert handling on the part of Austin astride of Hazelthorpe, the latter would, have won. Harris was of little assistance to Mead-owbreeze. The investigation into the Dunn-Fischer charge of bribery against bookmaker Steve LHommedleu waa continued today by Judge Price and General Manager AAinn of the New Louisville Jockey Club. Both accusers reiterated their former charge and submitted sworn affidavits in support. LHpmmedieu made a general denial of the charges. The case is now up for consideration by the New Louisville Jockey Club, which will probably in the next few days appoint a committee to Jook thoroughly into the affair with full powers to act. The case may eventually be brought to the attention of the American Turf Association for final disposition. Trainer Henry McDaniel of , the M. H. Tlchenor and Co. stable, was among todays arrivals. He stated that the horses handled by him had been transferred from New York to Memphis where thev will be rested during the winter. B. C. Evans shipped his horses to Aqueduct today and took jockey Shilling with him. L. L. Lamar and M. M. Hamilton also left with their strings for the same track. Jockey Aubuchon attributed his failure to get away from the post in the fifth race to the fact that Jetsam was in the act of savaging Henry Watterson when the barrier was released. For disobedience at the post In the second race jockey Swain was fined 5 by the starter. Glenarm was obtained by J. McKinney through the claiming route after the second race for 00.
