KNAPP BURNS UP THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. His Waiting Tactics Cause the Defeat of Heavily-Backed Logistilla and Military Man. u Oakland, Cal., November 24. The local track was the mecca of thousands of turf devotees this afternoon. Logistilla, in the handicap at- a mile, was a name to conjure with. Hildreths splendid mare sustained a fluke defeat, the victory of Ramus by inches in a runaway race creating a big sensation. The favorite jvas backed for n mint of money at odds-ou. Owner Hildreths commission alone was said to have reached five figures. The eastern delegation went down to a man for limit wagers and all united in criticism of jockey Knapp for losing a race he should have won. That he realized this fact more keenly than any one else was apparent by the way he rode Military Man in the race following. Only a lad rattled to the verge of lunacy could have repealed and actually exaggerated the waiting tactics that he employed on Logistilla. C. Ross, the midget metropolitan jockey, beat the badly ridden Ferguson horse with Barney Schrelbers Dewey. The winner was bid up from 00 to . but retained. The Missouri horseman won a good bet on his horse and had an exceptionally go3d day. Five favorites were beaten. Every one of the outsiders, with the possible exception of Princeess Titania, scored fluke victories. Balmy weather conditions prevailed. Thirty-one bookmakers, an increase of three, cut in today. C. C. McCafferty and the lirm of Engart and Stockton arrived today with two carloads of horses from Latouia.
