Fred Bent broke in the rear, but moved up fast, caught the leaders tiring in the stretch and crowded and beat them out luckily. Silver Sue also suffered at the start, but quickly took u forward position and held on very gamely to the end. Tavora, in an inside position, had a rough journey, was shut off and pulled up at a critical moment in the last sixteenth and, finishing like a whirlwind on the outside, just failed to get up and was best. Im Joe, from a lucky start, took the lead prematurely on the far turn and consequently tired at the end. Chief Wlttnian showed superior speed and forced the early pace, but tired and was probably short. Governor Davis, away flatfooted, dropped far to the rear and closed up in the last half. Prince Nap is not ready, but also gained in the last quarter, Lord Nelson is not ready and got away very badly. , . . d PZCi A f SECOND RACE 5-8 Mile. 5012109. Purse 00. 2-yeur-oldZ Allowances. Water Cure got away poorly, but closed up gradually and, finishing fast and gamely, won in the last stride. Jack Little, after close pursuit of AV. B. Gates, drew out in the-stretch, but was nipped out at the end of a poor ride. W. B. Gates set the pace, which was very slow, to the last, quarter and tired. Benvolio was choked in the early running despite the slow pace and, after being urged suddenly, failed utterly in the stretch, where he apparently swerved to the inside and finished securely pocketed behind the leaders. Throw the race out. Iras trailed early and made up ground in the last half. Bombardier was going well in hand for the first half, then dropped out. Ramus outbroke the others and rushed into a long lead, where he held sway undisturbed for six furlongs and, holding on gamely, his early advantage enabled him to win by a narrow margin. Logistilla again broke slowly and ran in the rear for five furlongs, then finished with a belated stretch rush and just failed to get up under a badly judged ride, but was much the best. Dolinda ran well up throughout and outstayed Supreme Court for third place. Supreme Court followed Ramus closely to the -stretch and failed to stay. Lubln, after trailing hopelessly in the rear, closed up some ground in the stretch, but is not fit. Tom Roberts showed early speed and is worth remembering in slower company. d Kd A Q FIFTH RACE 1 Mile. l:3Si 4 117. 00 added. SuvoWs and upward" UtlUtrO Selling. Net value to winner 50. Military Man, messed about at the start and taken back into a rear position, was waited with overlong and, finishing with a belated, but sensational, stretch sprint, just failed to get up. Rolla set the pace for seven furlongs and put up a game finish under a weak ridn. Little Joker ran forwardly from the start and finished well. Harbor likes soft going, but can do belter. Ruby was in nearest pursuit of the winner from the start and was wearing her down slowly at the end. Van Ness was prominent early, then fell back in the stretch, but came again and earned a game third. Romaine, on the inside and beginning slowly, closedup fast in the stretch and would have been third in another stride. Royal Rogue was always outpaced. Celeres ran poorly. Platoon got away poorly, but ran much below his true form and will bear close watching. Overweights Ruby, 2 pounds; Van Ness, 1; Royal Rogue, 3; Platoon, 1.
