IIOLSCHER TAKES THE CUP. WASHINGTONIANS CALL HIM A CINCH TOR THE MAXIMUM STAKES TOMORROW. Bright Boy Is Again Disqualified Miller Tails to Ride a Winner Three Purses for J. W. Colt Notter the Days Star. Washington, D. C, November 20. Holscher came right back after his Dixie triumph yesterday to beat a better opposition for the Washington Cup at two miles and a quarter at Bennings today. Banker was the favorite, while Holscher went back from 7 to 5 to 2 to 1. Holscher waited on the others for one mile and three-quarters then moved up. He always held Hanker safe in the run through the stretch. Holscher was sore when he came on the track, but warmed out of it. He will start again in the -Maximum at three miles Saturday. The weather was clear, though quite cold and one of the largest crowds ever seen at the course was in attendance. The crowd was disappointed sadly in the respect that Miller, who invariably attracts the following of the holiday race-goers, did not ride a winner. His mounts were heavily backed, but at no time did lie look like winning . a race. There was another disqualification today. Bright Boy, which finished lirst in the fifth race being setback for interfering with Orphan Lad. The horses made the turn for home head and head when Bright Boy liolted and carried Orphan Lad to the out-side fence. Bright Boy then swerved back to the inner rail and came on to win by a length and a half. Johnsons claim of foul was justly allowed. Samuel Emery, who owned the first Brooklyn Handicap winner. Dry Moiiopole, made his re-entry to racing this season after having .been in retirement .for a number .of years and he has .received little encmigi?ntent. Bright Boy, his only horse to race so far, has finished in the money twice and each time has been disqualified. It was a banner day for James W. Colt. Horses wraring his green and white jacket won three races. He won both steeplechases and the opening race on the iiat. It was a fight for the honors in all three. Pioneer ran a remarkable race in the selling steepe-hnse, as he was outrun and outjumped at all stages, coming onto the fiat last but one of the field and many lengths behind the leaders, but Huppe never let up on him and he won by a length and a half. A number of horses were sold in the paddock before the race. Lord of the Vale brought top price, going to l V. Healey for ,000. C. C. Sinithson Iiaid ,SC0 for El Dorado and A. J. Joyner got 3onna Elvira for 1906.sh75. Small prices ruled for the others. Three favorites won and Notter rode three winners.
