REBO A PUZZLE TO BUKLEW. CANT UNDERSTAND HIS DEFEAT AND HAS A DOCTOR LOOK HIM OVER. Medicine Man Says Horse Is Not Ailing James Reddick Opens the Campaign Auspiciously for Ellison Racing Gcssip. New Orleans, La., November 30. The performance-of Rebo at the Fair Grounds this afternoon was so unaccountably poor that Fred Burlew hastened to the stable with a veterinary surgeon as soon as the race was over. A thorough examination of the horse, however, failed to disclose an ailment of any kind. There is no question but that jockey Hen-nessy did his utmost to win. After an early flight of speed the horse tired and at the end was running laboriously. Burlew said the stable commission was ,000. Beecher, heavily supported by a smart con-v tingent, captured the race while Flavigny, also showing sudden improvement, beat out the long priced Pride of Woodstock for second place. C. It. Ellison began his winter campaign with the horses that he brought here from Memphis recently in an auspicious manner. James Reddick was the medium of a heavy plunge and, despite his poor handling by L. Smith, landed the purse in a tight fit from Excitement. The poor ride put up by F. Keyes on RIan was mostly responsible for spoiling a good betting coup by James Arthur in the closing race. Since the death of L. V. Benson, Arthur has been steadily preparing the horse for a killing. At one time 10 to 1 was obtainable, but at post time 3 to 1 was eagerly accepted. Keyes elected to take Rian on the outside of all the others, thereby running fully a sixteenth further then the leaders and, when the horse was gaining in the stretch, be was of little assistance to his mount. Burlew and ONeill took down a purse with Gild, but the stable profited little in a betting way. They thought the price too short. In Suada, G. C. Bennett sent a smart filly to the post in the second race. In her previous start the saddle slipped and therefore a true line was not had on her. She won comfortably from the suddenly improved Frank Flesher. Sixteen horses, the property of William Gerst, in charge of T. L. Pierce got in today from Nashville and are quartered at City Park. Jockey McGee was suspended for one week by the starter in the second race for disobedience at the post. Starter Dade lifted the suspension of jockey Truman today.
