FIERCE GALE DOES NOT RETARD FAVORITES. Regulars Have a Profitable Day at Oakland Schrei-ber Scores a Coup With Sam Barber. Oakland, Cal., November 30. The tierce gale which held sway at Oakland today overshadowed even the racing. From a human and equine standpoint all was quiet and serene at the track. The chief topic of conversation among the race-goers was the convincing victory of Borghesi in the big race, the defeat of Shot Gun by Cruzados and the wonderful and positively stupefying measure of the Thanksgiving Day attendance. Regulars were mostly in evidence this afternoon. The card was Interesting but lacking in a feature. Despite the lumpy and uncertain conditions of the track, favorites and well-backed second choices were almost uniformly successful. Barney Schreiber brought off a big coup with Sam Barber in the first. The Oregon contingent did the same with Shady Lad in the fourth and nearly everybodys hopes and wagers were carried to victory by the first choices in the other four races. There was some delay between the second and third races due to Judge Hoppers insistence that the identity of the horsq. Bismarck be properly established. W. B. Jennings, still chafing over Shot Guns defeat, offered to match his horse against Cruzados at the same distance or further for any amount. If President Williams gets up a special race the match will probably come off. Old man Sheridan put in a bad quarter of an hour with the stewards this afternoon for his failure to declare Blue Eyes out of the Thanksgiving Handicap. It is assumed that there were mitigating circumstances as it is said that Judge Hopper let him off with a reprimand. Parker and Thwaite bid up Major Tenny from 00 to 00 in the second race.
