HOPEFUL STAKES NOMINATIONS. Two of the most important events annually decided at Saratoga closed for entries November 12, with big entry lists. The Spinaway Stakes of 190S, for two-year-old fillies received a total of 257 nominations and the Hopeful Stakes for two-year-olds of 1000 has the produce of S03 mares named. Mr. J. B. Haggin leads the latter with the remarkable aggregate of 202 nominations. If all these mares should drop foals Watercress would be represented t3 23; Greenan, 20; Africander, 25; Goldfinch, 24; Royal Flush, 22; Sombrero, 20; Star Ruby, 10; Kinley Mack, 19; Dieudonne, 10; Mc- Waterboy, llr RAliable.y.teTSeMsteEi, 5; Order .and Juvenal two each, and Maxio, Ben Strome and, Montana one . each. . It will be observed that while the old standbys of Mr, Haggins unrivaled establishment have been given their customary opportunities, such younger aspirants to fame in the stud as Africander, Waterboy, McChesney, Sombrero, Slave and Reliable have not been neglected. Chicago patrons of the turf will be sure to await the first crop of McChesneys with loyal desire for a brilliant showing by the progeny of "Big Mac." The mares given to him were Heart of Midlothian, Achillides, Merry Order, Miss Jack, Bundoora, Lady Lucan, Trlfolia, Trouba, Recognition, Lass OBrae, Gold Order, Lottery Twinkle, Maqueda and Polacca. Harry Payne Whitney has a splendid representation of grand mares bred to Hamburg, those mated with him being Ballyhoo, Black Venus, Blue Girl, Daisy F., Elizabeth L., Endurance by Right, Equality, Fiesole, Hurly Burly, Irish Reel, Kildeer, Kaloolah, Lady Frivofes, Mineola, Martha II., Morn-ingside, Regatta, Ruperta, The Belle, Vespers, York-ville Belle, Sandria, Fleurette and Margerique. Nearly all of these were superb racers before being sent to the stud and represented the late William C. Whitneys devotion to his theory of fine race-mares for successful broodmares. Mr. Whitney also has thirteen nominations of mares bred to. that grand racer Irish Lad, Handspun, Jinks, Princess Rupert, Sister Mary, Urania and Ascension being of the number. Barney Schreiber has in four mares bred to Sain, two to Sir Hercules and six to Ban-noekburn. Clarence H. Mackey lias a nomination of twenty-two bred to the premier stallion Meddler, including Correction, Admiration, Gunfire, Hatasoo, Kaniara, Botha, Rcina, Suisuu, Trigger and Schula-mite, besides the fine imported mares Ballantrae and Irish Ivy, each of which won the Cambridgeshire Handicap in England; Irish Ivy in 1890 and Ballantrae in 1002.
