JUGGLER RUNS A FAST MILE. WINS THE HANDICAP AT NEW ORLEANS IN 1:39 3-5, LEADING ALL THE WAY. Charlie Eastman Has Advantage at the Start Dargin Scores for Schreiber Orly Brings a Purse to Pat Civill. New Orleans, La., December 3. In the handicap at one mile, which featured the card at the Fair G rounds today. Juggler led all the way and won as his rider pleased in 1:305. The weight carried by the winner was 10S pounds and the performance was a splendid one. Burlew and ONeill backed him with confidence and he was the favorite. St. Valentine had to be keenly urged to outlast Dr. Spruill for second place. The meeting of Charlie Eastman and La Sorciere in the third race at six furlongs was a secondary feature and both had. much backing. Starter Dade was unfortunate in raising the barrier witli the Gardner horse off fully in motion and two lengths in front of the others. The advantage at the start was the deciding factor, as Charlie Eastman dashed into a long lead under easy restraint and was never seriously menaced. I.a Sorciere beat the others off for second place. Harney Schreibers colors were carried to victory in the Second race by his erratic Dargin. A smart play developed on him, forcing the odds down from liO to 1 to 12 to 1. The stable, however, failed to support him. After running six successive seconds, P. M. Civill finally landed a purse by Orlys victory in the closing race for which -he was a slight favorite over King Ellsworth. Jockey Bedell, who has the distinction of riding Tokalon to victory in this years Brooklyn Handicap, put up a weird ride on J. W. ONeill in the second race. The horse was a short priced favorite at the opening of the betting, but receded at an alarming rate. He was never a serious "contender in the running. The judges have taken the race under consideration. Meanwhile Bedell has been forbidden the privilege of riding. Voting, at 25 to 1, ,was favored with the most racing luck in the fifth race for which Solly M. was favorite. lie just lasted long enough to beat out Jacoino. Solly M. had a rough trip throughout and when his chances appeared hopeless Nicol eased him up, for which he was cautioned by the judges. J. L. Hall got in from Benuings today and took up his duties as paddock judge. Clarence McDowell will take up his duties as presiding judge tomorrow. James Arthur is much put out over the ride which C. Morris gave Heury . Watterson Saturday. Albert Simons arrived from Washington late last night with nine horses. The consignment was sixteen hours lato and" some of the horses in the string are reported seriously sick.
