January ."i. — A heavy downpour of rain this morning rendered the track a sea of mud. giving horses that run best in such going a I chance to earn brackets. A cold drizzle fell intermittently all afternoon, keeping the crowd down to the regulars. It was the smallest Saturday attend ance of the present meeting. Although there was much scratching in the feature event, the Hollywood Handicap at one mile for three year olds and over, others were entered at the last moment, bringing a field of nine to the post. Molesey. on the strength of his good showiug in the California Club Handicap, was made a mild favorite, but cut little figure in the rate. He was hopelessly knocked out. of it just before reaching the far I mn. The winner turned up in Pusty Miller, coupled with Supreme Court. He was in close quarters next to the inside rail when the stretch was catered, but got through, and with a tine burst of speed won easih Arimo ran a winning race after lieing eanght in the barrier anil leaving the |h s too far out of il to over come the winners sprint. C. Gross, who rode Supremo Court, allowed his mount to neatly knock Mob sey over the feme on the tirst turn, for which he was suspended for thirty days. P. Riley, who has shown much improvement in the saddle lately, rode three winenrs.
