THE WHITE KNIGHT WINS GOLD CUP. London, June 20. The race for the Ascot Gold Cup, two miles and a half, for three-year-olds and upward, at Ascot today resulted in a dead heat between Colonel Kirkwoods The White Knight and the Duke of Grammoiits Eider, but the stewards sustained a claim of foul against Eider and gave first place to The White Knight. Reppo was third. In addition to the gold cup value at 2,500, the race was worth 7,500 in specie. The gold cup, which was stolen Tuesday, has not been recovered and there is no trace of it. The loss falls on Garrad and Co., the makers, who will duplicate the trophy for Colonel Kirkwood. The White Knight is a four-year-old bay colt by Desmond, out of Pclla. lie won the Coronation Cup at Epsoin June !, in which the splendid three-year-old Polar Star met his first defeat after thirteen victories. Polar Star was again defeated today, finishing second to Sancy in the Rous Memorial Stakes at seven furlongs and 100 yards. Camlarg was third. The All-Aged Stakes was won by Rocketer, with Bon Marche second and Desca third. This was the greatest day, socially, of the Ascot meeting. King Edward. Queen Alexandria, the Prince and Princess of Wales and Prince and Princess Andrew of Greece went in state procession to the lield. The weather was perfect and most of London society and many visting Americans were in the royal inclosure. The display of gay colors surpassed former years.
