Charley Ward was saved from the early pace, moved no fast when entering the stretch and, in a hard drive, outgamed Mary Custis in the final strides. The latter, running to her best form, followed the early leaders closely and gamely outstayed Gleua MacBride for second place. Ciena MacBride, showing improvement, set the pace fast and tired in the closing strides, but had no contention for third place. The Belle of Brighton showed early speed, but quit when challenged. Dandy Dancer, much the best, forced Carasco to set a fast pace to the far turn, then took command aud, drawing r-way, won in a canter. Catherine F. was a speedy contender at all stages, but Klumenthul was of little help to her. Carasco showed the most early speed, but tired from setting the pace. Oriental Queen began slowly and finished fast. Abrupt ran into the bunch at the half-mile post and was sharply cut off aud compelled to be eased up. The winner was entered for 00; no bid. Royal Breeze, much the lest, waited ou the leaders until on the stretch turn, then moved up fast, caught Cousin Kate, raced her into defeat and won as his rider pleased. Cousin Kate showed the most early speed, set a fast pace and was easily best of the others. Avaunteer dropped out of forward contention on the turn for home, but came again and finished gamely. King Ellsworth trailed in the rear until well into the stretch, but saved ground on the turn, squeezed through next to the rail after being straightened out for tlfe stretch run and won going away. Matabon, off badly, came with a belated rush in the stretch run and outgamed Scarecrow for second place. The latter followed Thomond closely and ran a good race. Thomond showed early speed, but quit badly in the final drive. Suzanne Rocamora finished close up. Consideration ran well for three-quarters only.
