FASTEST MILE TIME. Charles Edwards l:;!7g in the Brighton Mile at Brighton Beach yesterday is not alone a new track record, but it is within one-fifth, of a second of the American record for a mile over "a circular track, first made by Dick Welles as a three-year old with 112 pounds at Harlem August 11, 1903, and equalled by Kiameslia as a three-year-old with 101 pounds at Belmont Park October I, 1905. It is also the fastest mile run since October 17 last, when Wes as a three-year-old with 102 pounds won the New Kochelle Stakes at Belmont Park. Inquisitor as a three-year-old with 101 pounds ran the mile in the same time at Sheepsheail Bay, when lie wou the Sheepsheail Bay Handicap, June 2S, 198G. AlIan-a-Dale as a four-year-old, with 110 pounds, ran a mile in l:o72 at Washington Park July 1, 190o, and this was the American record until Dick Welles performance a mouth and fourteen day3 later. The Brighton Beach track record lowered by Charles Edward was l:oS, first made by Voter as a six-year-old with 122 pounds up July 17, 1900, and was equaled by Ilermis as a. five-year-old with loo " pounds July 0, 1901. . Prior to Charles Edwards performance, the fastest time for a mile this year was l:SSs, by Dolly Spanker, six years old, 111 pounds, at Belmont Park May tJO and Sanfara, four years old, niuoty-Uve pounds, at Oakland, June 1.
