ONE FAVORITE WINS AT LEXINGTON. French Nun Only Rewards Form Players A Good Days Racing. Lexington, Ky., September 20. One lone favorite rewarded choice players this afternoon, and the downfall of the others enabled the eleven layers to win handsomely on the day. The biggest upsets came from the running of the third and fourth races, when Whisk Broom and Scalplock, considered much the best of their fields, were decisively taken Into camp by Melzar and Imboden respectively. Whisk Brooni was backed to the exclusion of the others, and her steady support caused considerable comment, inasmuch that Melzar, on previous form? figured a strong contender. Her lack of support caused the wise heads to wag. She broke In a forward position and led the others for the entire trip, winning well In hand at the finish over Whisk Broom, which did not receive the best of handling from Gaugel. Another large crowd was on hand, and most of the finishes were of the rousing order. The longest priced winner proved Black Dress, which won from Pleasant View Belle, the favorite. For the first time of the present meet J. C. Milam failed to land a purse with any of his representalves. His Ham- eraway fras used as Uie medium of a big betting plunge in the closing race, but third place was the best he could get. Lady Carol, showing a speedy three-quarters, was so far In front of the others that she lasted the additional quarter of the race to win out by a head from the fast-coming Charlatan. J. H. Baker started the day auspiciously by taking the first two purses witli Arrow Swift and French Nun, the latter the only favorite to win. Baker also sent Monoehord to the post with a hope of winning the fourth race, hut after going a half he fell hopelessly behind and was pulled up. Edward Corrlgan left tonight for Louisville, where he goes to witness the showing of his stallions and yearlings in the show ring at the Kentucky State Fair. Tod Cella, who Is in charge of the L. A. Cella string. of racers campaigning in the west, arrived today from Montreal, and reports that all his horses, .now quartered at Latonia, shipped well from the Canadian city. Judge Charles F. Price after ithis meeting will take a vacation until the opening of Windsor October 5, where he will be the- presiding official. Nearly all the owners who have raced here will ship their strings to Latonia on Sunday next. Financially the present meet will be !the. most success ful in years, and it is likely that fall racing will be a fixture in this city hereafter.
