At Oakland today, Itapid Water capped the climax in a recent series record breaking performances by achieving a victory in convincing manner at one mile and one hundred yards from six others in 1:44 J, which established a new American time record for the distance. S. C. Ilihlreths old liors has scored three successive wins within eight days and on each occasion lowered existing California records and closely approached American records at the other two distances traversed. The present triumphant exploits of the rejuvenated turf celebrity began with win over the Futurity course in 1:0SJ; five days later lie reeled off five and a half furlongs in 1:05s and completing a series of victories unparalleled here from a time standpoint by this afternoons crowning achievement. The big half-holiday crowd supported Bapid Water heavily and peristently and but for the victory of this favorite, would have gone broke to a man. The racing began with a success for Blondy, which was the public choice at 13 to 10. After that, with the exception already referred to, the-chances of the short-priced favorites went up in smoke. The failures of the prohibitive odds-on Glorio and Fireball aroused the ire of their backers. Gloriq was the unbeaten crack of the Seattle meeting and was started unfit. Fireball had forced Gemniell out in the fastest race of the meeting the day before. Today he finished a beaten-off third with Walter Miller up to Andrew B. Cook and Bill Mayhain. The racing was marked by some so-called reversals. Lone Wolf, in the third race, started the ball rolling by a scmersault. This horse comes from stable whose horses run notoriously inconsistently. The stewards have the Fireball fiasco under investigation and it is said that the horse- may be barred from starting hero again. Jockey Merritt Buxton will go to Arcadia to ride in the opening handicap to be run December 7. C. B. Wilson claimed Ial out of the fifth race for ,525. Jockey C.
