SUPPRESSES A PEST. New Orleans, La., November 30. A quietus was put on a scheme of the Louisiana Driving Club to put on night racing at their half-mile track opposite City Park. Mayor Beharmau yesterday addressed a letter to Inspector of Police Whitaker as follows: "In view of the repeated rumors and persistent reports that an attempt will be made to inaugurate night racing at one of tiie local tracks I would request you to notify those who are interested if the rumors and reports are true to abandon the project before subjecting themselves to the expense necessary, for the reason that night racing in New Orleans will not be tolerated under any circumstances. This objection applies with equal force against Sunday racing. It is my desire that you take all the steps necessary to prevent any attempt to inaugurate either night or Sunday racing at any of the tracks within the jurisdiction of the city of New Orleans. Please give this your earnest and immediate attention."
