T. BURNS TO RIDE BERKELEY MONDAY. Notter Decides to Remain at New Orleans — Jockey Steele Will Pilot Smoker. Washington. D. C. March 21. — Jockey Notter has notified trainer Dan Woodward of the Beverwyck Stable that he will not leave New Orleans to ride Berkeley in the First Spring Handicap Monday. Burns will be shifted from Banyan to Berkeley. John E. Madden will start F. R. Hitchcocks Smoker in the First Benning Spring Handicap, and jockey Steele, the Canadian rider who will share the mounts from the Madden— Hitchcock stable with Edward Madden, will have the mount on Smoker. Fred Littleiield has arrived at Washington from Middleburg. Md.. with Jubilee and two Allies. Oxford Belle and Flashlight. The first named is said to look like old Oxford did when he was a two-year-old. l»oth in cdor and conformation. Site is out of Aunt Belle, by Faraday. The other is a chest-uut by St. Blaise — Fizgig. Thomas McCreery is so enthusiastic over the trials of Golden Sea that he persuaded her owner. Fred Horwitz. to make the track a visit for the purpose of watching the tiily in one of her exercises. Horwitz returned to his home in Havorstraw. N. Y. satisfied that he owns a winner of several races during the meeting. Trainer Daly of the J. W. Colt string of jumpers says he will not start Thistledale or Ironsides during the Washington meeting. Economy, he thinks, is the l est steeplechaser in the stable at the present time. Ponar.-Is. Kara and Prince of Pilsen will all lie sent to the post here. H. S. Page, who will represent the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association here as steward, will also ride during the meeting in some of the cross-country features of the meeting. He has been riding to the hounds on Long Island all winter and says he is in fine condition. William C. Hayes is at the track superintending the training of his jumpers, Grandpa and Yama Christy. The latter will race at Benning. while the former will be reserved for the Belmont Park siuiiig meeting.
