Local members of the State Racing Commission decline to discuss their Intention with reference to the announcement of the Latonla Jockey Clnb that bookmakers will be in line Monday, notwithstanding the ruling of the commission against them, but some well-posted persons here are offering wagers that the commission will revoke Latonias license as soon as bets tire made In books, and that the state government will proceed against tl" track management. The law creating the State Racing Commission empowers that Ivody to "prescribe conditions under which racing shall be conducted In this state." and requires that racing associations be "duly licensed by said commission." and that every license shall contain a condition that all races or race meetings conducted thereunder shall be subject I to the rules, regulations and conditions from time J to time prescribed by the commission, and shall be J revocable by the commission for any violation thereof, - or whenever the continuance of such license shall 1 be deemed by the commission not conducive to the b interest of legitimate racing." The law further re-lequires - that where a license is revoked, the commission - "shall publicly state Its reasons for so doing, and the finding of the commission "is subject to the e review of the court of competent jurisdiction. The law declares any meeting not licensed by the e commission "a public nuisance" and provides that t "every person acting or aiding therein shall be e deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and punished by a a fine of not less than 00 or more than ,000 for r each day of such meeting or racing and in addition n thereto." in a suit brought for the purpose by the e State Racing Commission In the circuit court of t the countv where it may be proposed to conduct t such unauthorized racing, an Injunction may be e Obtained against the same." . While the majority of horsemen and people in this s section of the state were of the opinion that, the e State Racing Commission, in view of the hard times ? to which the failure of the mutuels is mostly at ce tributed. should have granted the appeal of the Latonla Jockey Club for reinstatement of the bookmakers this fall, the majority are likewise of the e opinion that since the commission has seen fit to deny that appeal, the law of the state should be ie upheld to the letter and that the commission should d take speedy action against the Latonla Jockey Club If books are put on. That a fight is imminent is is certain and there are few who doubt that the Latonla i- Jockey Club will in the end be the loser.
