THE WINNERS AT LONG PRICES. To all followers of racing the hope of some day descrying and backing a "long shot" is an ever present and fascinating expectation. Yet the winners at really great odds come rarely and the opportunity to reap a fortune with a small outlay generally passes by unrecognized until it is too late. Of the winners at great prices this year those paying the highest rate did it in the returns from the mutuels at Louisville and Latonia, the record for the year so far being 139 to 1, by Percy Green, at Louisville, May 13. In bookmaking but two iiorses have won at 100 to 1, Alleviator and Colonel Jewell, both at Santa Anita Park. The following is the list of horses wiuning to date at noteworthy odds iu the betting: Owner. Horse. Track. Dale. Odds. G. J. Long Alleviator Santa Anita Park January 7 100-1 I. II .
