WASHINGTONIS MEETING TERMINATED. Washington, D. C October 17. The inaugural meeting of the Washington Horse Show and Racing Association came lo a close with the running of todays program. The meeting, while not a success ; : financially, was encouraging enough to the management to warrant the announcement being made that ; the horse show will be an annual fixture at Benning : in the future. Society turned out in force today and the attendance was by far the largest of the week. Speculation was brisk and a lively interest : was taken in the running of the different races. The racing was spirited and the finishes close, heads separating the first two in three of the four dashes. William P. Riggs again acted as presiding judge. Young James McLaughlin, who has had more ! than his share of success at the meeting, added 1 nnother purse to his credit when Great Jubilee captured the opening race. His victory came after a duel with Haiionia. which lasted all through the last furlongs. Baby Willie leat Minot out a head in the second 1 race because she was the best ridden of the two. Kfaus was of little help to Minot and when it came to a drive was unable to keep his horse straight. Southwest made all the pace in the steeplechase and won off by himself. Laughing Eyes beat Alauila i out a head after a long stretch drive in the final I race of the day. J. W. Pangle has arranged to ship his stable to Cuba Ibis winter and will race -at both the Havana i and Tampa meetings. Gridiron will be among the hand. George Newton will also ship to Havana and 1 bis string will include several horses owned by R. T. Wilson. Jr. James Johnston is another horseman who will go to Cuba. It lias been officially announced by the Maryland 1 Jockey Club that William P. Riggs will be the presiding-. -Judge at Pimlico this fall and that E. C. Smith will bo his associate. Frank J. Bryan, who at former meetings acted as presiding judge, will 1 be one of the stewards this fall.
