BROOMSTICK GOES TO BROOKDALE FARM. Lively Bidding for the Holder of the Record at a Mile and a Quarter. Lexington. Ky.. November 23. On the first day of the Fnsig-Tipton Companys ninth annual Kentucky sale of thoroughbred stallions, mares, yearlings, weanlings and race horses, which began in Horsemens Headquarters at 11 oclock this morning, ninety-five head passed under auctioneer William Eastons hammer for an aggregate of 3,905, the average being 57.50. It was a splendid sale, everything considered, and shows improvement in prices over those thirty days ago. The attendance was large and bidding spirited throughout. The star of the sale was Broomstick, from the Senorlta Stud. Everybody was on tiptoe when thls big little horse, neighing and cavorting and looking the picture of health, was led into the ring. There was no chance for anv announcement from auctioneer Easton concerning his qualities. "And this Is that grand horse. Broomstick," said Mr. Easton. as a preface to some further remarks in contemplation, but before he uttered them Elliot C. Cowdin shouted "two thousand dollars." Charles W. Moore. Sanford Lyne and Cowdin took it by hundreds to ,900. when O. Ii. Harrison of New York cut In at ,000. Cowdin raised him a hundred. Harrison bid ,200. and Cowdin made it ,250. Harrison quit and the hammer fell at ,250. Mr. Cowdin announced that he had made the purchase for Harry Payne Whitney, and that Broomstick would go to the Brookdale Stud in New Jersey. An hour afterward Mr. Harrison offered Cowdin ,000 for Broomstick, but it was declined. Garry Hermann, sold for 4,300 two years ago, today was knocked down to Peter Clinch of St. .Tobns. New Brunswick, for 00. Audience was the mare most in demand and after spirited bidding between Messrs. Elliot Cowdin for Hermann B. Dur-vea: Peter Wimmer for a Virginia gentleman: Edward Kane for August Belmont, and Thomas F. Kellr. presumably for Clarence II. Mackay. she was knocked down to Mr. Kelly for ,000. Mr. Kelly also got Flocarline. dam of blaster Robert, for ,100. These mares were sent out to Mr. Mackays Kingston Stud. The highest prices paid for weanlings were ,250 by C. L. Harrison for a half-sister to Master Robert, and again by J. L. McGinn is for a half-brother to Ace High. H. B. Duryea got Ra-vello II.. the dam of Frank Gill, for ,000. The total for the twenty-nine head in the Senorita Stud consignment was 5,750. an average of . Old Senorita was not sold. In respect to the wishes of his dead brother Captain Harry Brown announced that sue would pass her remaining days in ease.
