ENGLANDS BEST TWO-YEAR-OLD EILLY. if IJnynrdu Is no far the host colt, there is no doubt that Vivid, owned ly Sir Daniel Cooper, i.s the lop-notch filly. At the recent Keinptoii lalk ineetin she won the Imperial Produce Date, the richest two-year-old event of the season and worth 0,000. Itayardo was not engaged in the race nor were a few others of the front brigade, but nevertheless, there was plenty of excitement. Anions the starters was a lilly out of Sceptre, by Cylleite, the properly of AV. liass. and a great raking chestnut named William the Fourth, and owned by Lord Michelbam. and, besides, there were others in The Whirlpool. 1erdiccas. llialeron. The .Tnbber-wock and Doro. all first rate youngsters. The distance was Jive furlongs straightaway, and Danny Mabcr. who had the leg up on Vivid, did not crowd her at the start, though he by no means got left. Ienliceas was the lirst to show the way from Doro. Vivid and The Whirlpool, while llialeron. which commenced slowly, made up ground. A quarter of a mile from home The Whirlpool took it up and looked all over a winner, but Mnher set about tackling him. and he brought Vivid along for a nice burst and won by three-quarters of a length. It was remarkable that Maker rode four winners on that came day. Prior to this Vivid had a notable win to her credit in the Prince of Wales Plate of ,000 at York, where she was also ridden by Maher. Vivid is highly bred and lias both speed and slaying power from sire and dam. She is by St. Krusuuin. out of tilare. so that through St. Simon on the fathers side she goes back to West Australian, and through Ayrshire. Hampton and Galopiu has the Slockwcll strain on the mothers side. Sir Daniel is this year exceptionally lucky in the lilly line, as he possesses another line one in Bonny Bay. She is by St. Prusquin, out of Float, and one of her best wins was the Champion Breeders Foal Stakes of ,000 at the Derby September meeting. On this occasion she came home in front of Lord Londonderrys crack colt. Iloliday ITouse. his only beating of the year.
