WHEN SCHORR RETIRED FROM RACING. The return of J. W. Schorr, the Memphis brewer, to racing, as is indicated by his recent purchase of the entire string of racers owned by Albert Simons, recalls his sudden retirement from the turf several years ago. Mr. Schorr was racing his string of horses at the old Fair Grounds in St. Louis immediately proceeding the closing of the race tracks in Missouri by Governor Folk and, growing disgusted because of losses sustained through, the poor showing of his horses, remarked to a group of horsemen congregated In the paddock that he would sell his entire string of horses for 0,000. S. C. Hildreth. who at that time was training for E. E. Smathcrs, was told of this remark and immediately sought out Mr. Schorr, from whom he secured the horses at the above mentioned figure. Mr. Schorr rcgretled his hasty action, especially after Uncle Charley won tho St. Louis Derby, but decided to abide by hij decision and retire from the turf. That Mr. Schorr is hopeful pf the future of racing is shown by his return to his favorite sport.
