STANLEY FAY WINS THE MONROVIA. Glorio Ties the Record at Three-Quarters Great Day at Santa Anita. Los Angeles, Cal., December 12. Amid tumultuous applause that shook the very pillars of the grandstand. Stanley Fay swept over the line in the Monrovia Handicap a short half length in front of Vox Populi, witli Magazine and Edwin T. Fryer lapped on Vox Populi in the order named. The race appeared to he almost any one of the first threes until in the last 100 yards, where .Stanley Fay gradually asserted his supremacy. Vox Populi was probably best, hut was unlucky in leaving the post slowly and had to go clear around the others for a -lear course. He finished gamely under the whip, but was unable to overcome his early handicap. Edwin T. Frvers effort was a sparkler. He finished with a belated rush after being badly outrun to the stretch. The winner, as is usual in all the big fixtures hoie, was crowned with a tloral wreath. He was well backed by a few admirers just before post time. , , The American record for six furlongs, 1:111. and held bv Nimbus, was equaled by Glorio in the third race. "The II to 10 favorite. Colloquy, set a killing pace from the start and appeared the winner when a sixteenth out, but here Glorio ame through witn a sensational rush, overwhelming her in the closing strides. The winner was entirely overlooked in the 1eThefast time that was scored throughout the day was also evident dm the fifth race, taken by the partly hamstrung Ben Trovato in a riharp drive from the well-backed favorite, Pretension. The mile was run in l:37g. which equals the track record. A crowd of 5,000 was present and witnessed by far the best card of the meeting. The close finish an the handicap between .the first four speaks well for Secretary Smiths adjustment of the weights. Today was eut-in day. twenty-five pencilers doing business. The speculation was unusually heavy.
