NOTES OF THE TURF. Jockey Vandusen made his reappearance in the saddle at Oakland Friday on St. Joe, in the second race, which was his llrst mount since he met with an accident in a had fall some time ago. The nominations for the Gunst. Bell and Undine Stakes and the Gebhard Handicap, all of which iixtures are for coming .two-year-olds, now yearlings, will elose tomorrow. Monday. December 14. Henry Flittners trouble has been diagnosed as a case of Brigbts disease, rather than paralysis, as at first supposed. There has been little change in his condition since he was suddenly stricken down last week at Oakland. Tim Gaynor, of Hamilton. Ont., a well-known horseman, has sailed for Australia, where he will try his hand at racing in that country. Gaynor has heen both a trainer and owner, and has met with considerable success in this country and in Canada. John Fields was the purchaser of the only Napa Stock Farm yearling that was sold at the sale last week, which was abandoned when the others offered failed to elicit a reasonable bid. The yearliug is n bay colt by The Judge Handsome Florry, and sold for 25. Fred Cook now admits that his star racer. Lawrence P. Daley, has a bowed tendon, but says that it is not of a serious nature and will only necessitate the temporary retirement of the colt. The best evidence that Cook does not consider that the usefulness of the eolt for racing purposes is at an end Is afforded by the fact that -he has decided to have him gelded and later fired.
