The English flat racing season of 190S is over and Danny Maker, the American rider. Is at the top of the list of winning jockeys, both In percentage and the number of winning mounts. This has been Mahcrs most successful season during the nine "years he has been riding ott the English turf. His grand ay.erago for the nine years is 24.34 and only onge during that time did he average lower than 20.00. a remarkable record. F. Wootton. the fiftccn-vcar-old Australian boy, was Makers most formidable opponent for the leading honors and finished the season in second place with 129 wins, although he was suspended for a whole month. W. Higgs. who was the leading jockey in 1906 and 1907. while not riding in the form he displayed in former years, has had by no means a bad season and finished third with 124 wins. The winnings of the royal horses during the past season were almost double of that of last year, but at that they have not proved as good as it was hoped they would. J. B. Joel is the largest winner of the season, his horses having earned the sum of 31,230, the product of nineteen races won. To his grand four-year-old. Your Majesty, which contributed 0,430 to the above named sum is most credit due for the wonderful success of Mr. Joels stable. L. Neumann is next on the list of winning owners, four of his horses earning .770, of which sum Siberia is responsible for S,410. Mr. Fairie owes his high position in this list solely to Bayardo. which won seven races and 5,190 and retired for the 6eason unbeaten. August Belmont and Richard Croker appear well up in the list of winning owners, the former with the sunt of 3,615 and the latter with 1,615. His other two successes were in the St. James Palace Stakes at Ascot and the St. George Stakes at Liverpool. . Bayardo. besides being the champion two-ycar-61d of the year, is second on the list of money-earning horses with 5,190 to his credit. Bayardo won all the seven races in which lie started and was never fully extended, retiring to winter quarters with an unbeaten record. His victories were in the New Stakes. National Breeders Produce Stakes. Richmond Stakes, Middle Park Plate and several others. Signorinetta is third on the list through her vic-tories-in the Derby and the Oaks, for which achievements her owner was personally congratulated by King Edward. Bav Ronald holds third position in the list of winning sires by virtue of the Tcmarkable success of the unbeaten Bayardo, which contributed to his sires total the product of seven races won, the sum of 3,190. Old Gallinule, which held the premier position last vear, drops into fourth place this season with 0,11-5 to his credit. Taylor, who handled the unbeaten Bayardo. is second on the list of trainers, and the sunt which the horses ho trained won this year is larger than the total credited to him last year when he was the leading trainer. F. Harrigan. who until last season was prominently identified with the jumpers, while seventh on the list of trainers, has sent more winners to the post during the past season than any other trainer. Chevalier Ginlstrelli, who won the Derby and Oaks with Signorinetta, figures in the list with his two victories, because he was his own trainer.
