JAPANESE HORSES IMPROVING FAST. For the last few years the Japanese government has been steadily buying stallions, both thoroughbred and hackney, in England. America. France and Hungary, although as yet, so far as Japan is concerned, horse-breeding is only in its infuncy. The government representative recently reported officially that a great improvement has already been made in the class of young stock as the outcome of crossing these imported sires with the native mares, which are mostlv nondescript ponies. It will be Interesting to witness the type of animal eventually produced, and we understand that the Japanese military- authorities are more than satisfied with the results already obtained.
