: WINNINGS OF THE NEWCASTLE STABLE FOR THE PRESENT YEAR - The Newcastle Stable did not have a particularly bad financial year in 190S, but suffered greatly in comparison with 1907. Still that was the banner year of the stables history, with 1,892 to its credit. That year McCarter and Spconer together won more than the whole stable did In 1908. Had McCarter remained sound there would, probably have been a different story to tell, but unfortunately this game and .staying young horse fell lame early in the year and this made a great difference. However, there, are a host of owners in this country who would deem themselves singularly favored if they could show stable earnings of more than 0,000. Desnite his inability to do himself justice. McCarter defeated Jack Atkin in the rich Excelsior Handicap at Jamaica and was the stables leading winner. Next to him was the good three-year-old. Big Chief. coely pressed by the capital two-year-old filly. Royal Captive. Another two-year-old, McChesneys half brother. Wise Mason, also did well and in him. Preceptor and Royal Captive the stable will have a trio of three-year-olds that should prove more than serviceable next year.
