MONTREAL BETTING MAY BE RESTRICTED. Montreal. Que.. April 1:1. The private bills com mittee of the Qaebec legislature has decided to hold up the betting clause in the remodeled charter of the Montreal Jockey Club, which owns the new track at Blue Bonnets. The Hon. Mr. Tasi hereau .of the provincial cabinet said there were many objections and he thought thev ought to be threshed out. It was therefore decided to hold the bill over, except that part which refers to matters not connected with la-tling. until tomorrow. Tlie charter provides that no gambling shall be permitted on the race course, but betting on com petitions of strength between men or beasts shall he pet salt ted under the civil code. Some restrictions were placed last year on betting at the •Woodbine race track. Toronto, and these may be adapted here.
