May 19.— The Churchill Downs spring meeting, which will come to a close Saturday, will pass into history as highly SOCCeasfaL iM.th financially and from the standpoint of the sport itself. The pari lnntuel system of betting lias proven more of a success than was looked for in view of last years experience, and the iockey club has derived a greater Income from commissions on tin- bettiug than if the books had bee* on. A Considerable volume of handttook commissions Is re tinned to the track daily and l et hack in the machines witli the idea of forcing the odds down and. of course, the track reaps a corresponding benefit. The gate receipts have exceeded expectations and the meeting will show the stockholders a handsome profit, aceoraaaat to reliable information.
